Phase angle as a key marker of muscular and bone quality in community-dwelling independent older adults: A cross-sectional exploratory pilot study
نویسندگان
چکیده
The aim of the present cross-sectional exploratory pilot study was to analyze ability Phase Angle (PhA) predict physical function, muscle strength and bone indicators, upon adjusting for potential confounders [age, sex, lean mass, body mass index (BMI)]. This included 56 physically independent older adults (age, 68.29 ± 3.01 years; BMI, 28.09 4.37 kg/m2). A multi-frequency segmental bioelectrical impedance analysis used measure PhA at 50 KHz. Additionally, function assessed through four functional capacity tests [30-sec chair‐stand; seated medicine ball throw (SMBT); timed up & go; 6-min walking test (6 MW T)], handgrip (dominant side) maximal isokinetic dominant knee flexor extensor. Moreover, indicators composition were dual energy X-ray absorptiometry.PhA significantly associated with SMBT (r = 0.375, effect size (ES) moderate); 6 T 0.396, ES 30-sec chair‐stand (rho 0.314, extension 0.566, large) flexion 0.459, 0.432, whole-body mineral content (BMC) 0.316, femoral neck BMC 0.469, density (BMD) 0.433, moderate). results multiple regression demonstrated that is (p < 0.001; R2 0.629), 0.004; 0.214), 0.697), 0.355), 0.774), 0.524), 0.249), BMD 0.020; 0.153). preliminary suggested linked some factors related quality in community-dwelling adults.
